This is a mixed-media collage on stretched canvas by Jan Kirstein Rigor measuring 48" x 72.” The piece employs mixed media, combining various textures and colors and materials such as paint, pastel, oil stick, graphite, Sumi e Ink, and Japanese rice paper to create a dynamic composition. A vibrant palette of orange, red, blue, yellow, black, and gray forms the core of the artwork.
Irregular shapes and bold lines convey a sense of movement and energy. The artist utilizes both sweeping, broad brushstrokes and intricate, detailed lines to develop layers and depth. Smooth and rough textures coexist, contributing to the overall chaotic yet balanced feel.
The artwork is inspired by a vision of moving from one dimension to another, and is also connected to the delivery of the Torah. According to Jewish tradition, God delivered the Torah to Moses on Mount Sinai. This event, known as the Revelation at Sinai, is a foundational moment in Judaism, marking the beginning of God's communication of His will to the Jewish people. The Torah, comprising the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, is believed to have been revealed in two parts: the written Torah (the text itself) and the Oral Torah, which was transmitted orally from Moses to his successors and eventually to the rabbis The creation process within this mixed-media painting reflects a quest for understanding the wisdom that comes with aging, alluding to the culmination of divine connection with the human soul at the end of human life,adding emotional richness to the piece.
